African Drumming Classes
we meet most Fridays in Cirencester at 7ish until 9pm. Aged from 20's to 70 We make an absolute racket and have a laugh..We also DO learn traditional African rhythms, step by step, copying and repeating, the whole group together. Each rhythm has several different parts, some easy, some more challenging, so there is always something to suit everyone, old hand or absolutely new to drumming. We also learn Dundun drum patterns for each rhythm. The dunduns are a set of 3 double ended drums played with sticks and accompanied by a bell attached to the drum. We have had a few outings last year to 'show off'. This year we are having fun at Chesterton School fete & Highworth Fair Trade event.
The Teen group meet an hour earlier and the group is as much a social meeting as a drum class. Everyone is made welcome and we have tea, coffee, juice and cakes halfway through. We will be holding a fundraising jumble sale soon to purchase costumes. We hope to join the adults on their outings. We learn patterns and simple African rhythms and have made a video of what we achieved since Christmas.
Young people under 25 years, with additional needs are particularly welcome. We have enough drums for everyone to borrow during class.
