Omanye African Dance Workshops
Primary, Secondary & Special Needs
Omanye dance workshops introduce Reception & Primary children to the steps and movements of African dance in a fun and lively way. Traditonal dances are adapted, enabling 3,4 & 5 year olds to copy the movements and keep in time to the music. All we need is a hall....children dance in bare feet.
Omanye dance sessions begin with body warm ups and exercises.
The dances appeal to both boys and girls, even shy students, drawn in by the infectious music and enthusiasm of their fellows. Children can be taught in groups of 30 to 40 leading to a whole school performance for parents & teachers.

Secondary age students are taught more complex, faster paced movements. The workshops are curriculum linked to history, geography, citizenship and music. Omanye African dance & drum sessions are excellent ice breaking & team building tools, particularly useful within the extended schools programme.
Ghanaian Dancing: a wonderful finish to a School Arts Week during which students are able to experience African drumming on Djembe and Dundun drums, song and a variety of African based arts and crafts for example Adinkra printing, Tribal mask making, Ghanaian 'gold' jewellery and African board games.
