Reception & Primary Children

Primary children enjoy listening to and copying the sounds of the big Djembe drum. Using clapping, bells, shakers and drum they learn to keep a pulse . The children are taught the basic sounds and begin to play a simple rhythm as a group. They absorb new words and language ,Djembe, Caxixe, Gankogui, Rhythm. The workshop helps develop co-ordination, concentration and gives the children a foundation from which to create their own rhythms

Secondary Children

Secondary age students derive all the benefits drumming offers Primary children. Particular benefits for 11 to 16 year olds are within the areas of self-esteem and self-confidence. Students of all abilities and backgrounds participate as part of a group expressing themselves creatively in a non-competitive way. Omanye African Drum & Dance workshops bring cultural diversity in an exciting way to the classroom, energising and inspiring the students
